All about me!
I spend my days writing (and when I'm not writing, I'm staring at the contents of the fridge, hoping it will give me writing ideas). I was the winner of the inaugural Greenhouse Funny Prize in 2012 with my rhyming children's series about a seriously mischievous invisible kitten called Squishy McFluff. The first book, Squishy McFluff: The Invisible Cat! published in February 2014 with Faber Children's and it has received excellent reviews in The Times, The Guardian, The Express, The Irish Times and The Scotsman, among others. It was recommended by The Booktrust, in its Best Books For Children Guide 2014, and was selected for the Summer Reading Challenge 2014. It was also longlisted for the UKLA Awards and shortlisted for the Oxfordshire Book Award 2015.
Five more books in the series have now published – Squishy McFluff: Supermarket Sweep!, Squishy McFluff: Meets Mad Nana Dot, Squishy McFluff: Secret Santa, Squishy McFluff: Seaside Rescue! and Squishy McFluff: The Big Country Fair!
The Squishy McFluff series is illustrated by the wonderful Ella Okstad and Squishy McFluff has his own website, which you can visit here! Psssst! There will be a Squishy McFluff picture book soon!
I also write picture books. Daddy's Sandwich and The Chocolate Monster are the first two books in the Ruby Roo Story series and they are illustrated by Laura Hughes. The next book in the series is called Quick, Barney, RUN! and it will publish in mid-2018.
Izzy Gizmo published with Simon & Schuster in 2017 and was shortlisted for the Sainsbury's Children's Book Award in the same year. Izzy Gizmo, all about a little girl who loves to invent big, crazy machines, is illustrated by Sara Ogilvie.
For slightly older children, I write chapter books – Piggy Handsome and Piggy Hero, are published by Faber, and are illustrated by Adam Stower. Piggy Handsome was the Observer Children's Book of the Week in August 2017, and was also featured in the Guardian's Best New Children's Books Guide.
